  1. McCandless made the decision to leave his old life behind. Although his reasons where not justifiable, McCandless wanted to be "unencumbered, emancipated from the stifling world of his parents and peers, a world of abstraction and security and material excess, a world in which he felt grievously cut off from the raw throb of existence" (Krakauer 22). In McCandless mind that would have made sense but to the reader it would seem as though he took most of his necessities for granted although his life was well made.
McCandless is more or less a fool for leaving his comfortable lifestyle with his imperfect family. And it was because they had those imperfections and didn't want to feel indebted with his parents. McCandless seemed to really believe that his life was so imperfect with this material excess that he had to get away from the raw throb of existence. He took his personal idea of how he should have lived and put it unto action and rode it out eventually leading to his death.
As he ventured of into the woods alone and under-supplied, McCandless refused the assistance of the strange people he met on his odyssey. When McCandless is discovered however, a note he had set on the front of his shelter read, "S.O.S. I need your help. I am injured, near death, and too weak to hike out of here. I am all alone, this is NO JOKE. In the name of God, please remain to save me. I am out collecting berries close by and shall return this evening. Thank you, Chris McCandless. August?" (Krakauer 12). It took McCandless to look into death to realize his life was better shared with imperfections.
His overall fate in Alaska was a tragedy. What suffering must he have endured. Hunger, thirst, the icy Alaskan winds, and other obstacles he faced along the way. Most people would agree that the death he faced was likely one of much suffering. If McCandless would have felt that he had really triumphed and lived up to the preaches of his idles, one would wonder if he would have still sub-come to the same fate. Under weight and asking for help only to be found two weeks after his death stuffed in a sleeping bag in an old bus.

    1. I Would have to disagree the reason why McCandless decides to live out his days in the wild wasn't due to his imperfect life but because he set his mind on doing what his role models would project. Role models such as Jack London ,Leo Tolstoy and Henry David Thoreau. These men shaped the way in which Chris lived out his days. The way in which he gets rid of everything and packs so little shows that hes rally willing to go through anything to do this. Or when he gets rid of his social shows self discipline.
Yes when McCandless is asking for help and is discovered , a note he had set on the front of his shelter read, "S.O.S. I need your help. I am injured, near death, and too weak to hike out of here. I am all alone, this is NO JOKE. In the name of God, please remain to save me. I am out collecting berries close by and shall return this evening. Thank you, Chris McCandless. August?" (Krakauer 12) it shows he shows he had given up by that time. He shows he could overcome things despite his death he he could of survived out in the wild.
Was it foolish for Chris not to have a backup plan yes it was but despite appearances he was firmly on his feet he wasn't in the dark when it came to survival as seen “no,thanks anyway i'll be fine with what I've got(Krakauer 6) . Should he had have an evacuation plan yes however he survive off the land for a while without any help. Against all odds he did what he planned on going out there with very little supplies and service for a good period of time. yes he didn't make it back to civilization but he triumph over the fact that he overcame many hard times.

  2. In the novel Into the Wild, McCandless decides to leave everyone and everything from his life behind after graduating from college. I believe this was a very bold move, I'm very dependent on technology and sometimes on friends and family that I wouldn't be able to just drop everything and go out rubber tramping and living off the land. McCandless decides on leaving everything behind because he wants to live an adventurous life, not knowing what will happen next. He also wants to get away from our society because he strongly believed that our government was just "money hungry", his parents were one of the many reasons why he believed the government and people were like this, they were very materialistic and only cared about him becoming a lawyer and making a lot of money.
In my opinion, McCandless' reasons were justified because it was him trying to find himself. Therefore I don't think he was a fool for leaving everything behind to rubber tramp I think that was very courageous. But I do believe he was foolish not wanting to accept help from others all the time, because maybe if he did take up their help he probably would not have died. Overall I admire him and would love to try to live my life how McCandless did, but with a little help from others when offered.
Bottom line, I believe it was a tragedy that McCandless died. His overall death was a triumph because he died with his values. Therefore I call his death honorable and I have respect for him. McCandless did something unforgettable that not a lot of people would have the courage to do, especially now a days because we're all highly dependent on technology that we couldn't just leave it behind.

  3. McCandless was a young man who had his whole life ahead of him. But instead, he made a decision that lead to his fatal death. It was the year 1992 when McCandless decided to go live in the wilderness for a while. Although his reasons were not justifiable, he did it anyways. McCandless thought that he was capable of going through his decision. He wanted to "live off the land for a few months." He wanted to prove that he didn't need society, that it was better to live off instinct and alone.
In my opinion, McCandless was a bit of a fool for making this decision. He decided to venture into wilderness completely unprepared. All he had with him was a 10 pound bag of rice, unstable cheap leather boots that weren't water proof, a rifle that was only .22 caliber as a weapon, and a map. He was a fool if he thought he was going to live off of that for months. On the other hand, in a way I also respect McCandless. He made a decision to live in the wild, he left everything he knew behind. He made his own choices, and went on for what he wanted, and he didn't let fear take over him. That shows courage and confidence.
In this kind of situation, it was clear that this was going to end in tragedy. After venturing into the woods, completely unprepared, it was no surprise he didn't make it out alive. McCandless walked into wilderness thinking it was going to be an unforgettable experience, an extravagant journey, and a extraordinary adventure. But sadly, it was nothing like it. It was obvious that he suffered a lot before his death, which we can tell from the SOS note he left behind. But at the time he didn't know it would have turned out like that. As Gallien had said in the beginning, "livin' in the bush isn't no picnic."
If McCandless have had made it out alive, he would have probably realized that Gallien was right. It's always nice to receive some help, even if you think you don't need it. That it was probably better if he would have had stayed put in society, or at least have been well prepared for that kind of journey. But sadly that wasn't the case for him. He was found dead in bad conditions.

  4. Mcandless chose to leave the life expected of him behind to follow something he strongly believed in. I also think that he left because the work to make money and make money to survive way of living isn't for everyone. Technically since he chose to go into the wild because something he strongly believed in that's all that is needed to say he had a justifiable reason and there was nothing no one could do to say he was wrong.
personally i think that McCandless was not a fool because he didnt let anyone influence that his belief's was wrong and even though they led to his demise he died following his own choice. Also i think that if he would have never left he would not have realized that his choice could be the wrong one and by him not knowing who says his life would have been fulfilled if he didn't leave.
I see the story of McCandless as both a tragedy and a triumph because yea him doing what he thought was right led to his death but at least he had the guts to stand up and decide to follow his own path. Also its sad that he wasn't able to survive or be rescued after he realized that his choice was wrong and that his life back home wasn't so bad. That's the tragedy because maybe if he lived he would have went home with that void of not knowing closed and he could have moved on from that staged of his life.

  5. McCandless could of stayed home and went to law school but he wouldn’t have enjoyed it. He wanted to disappear for a while. As it says, “he intended to invent an utterly new life for himself, one in which he would be free to wallow in unfiltered experience.” (Krakauer 22), basically meaning that he wanted to feel free and explore new things, such as going into the wild. He enjoyed going to his solo road trips, now it’s was time to go for a permanent trip and live off nature which he really did enjoy doing.
I don’t believe McCandless is a fool for his decisions becauses he love what he was doing. Also if he wanted to go back anytime, he wouldn’t have a struggle because he can go to law school and have his parents support. He graduated from Emory University and majored in history and anthropology with a 3.72 GPA. McCandless was a success in college, if he goes back he would have a good life ahead of him. Even though he turned down the membership in Phi Beta Kappa, he still could of get offered to other great places.
I see the outcome as a triumph because which every path he chooses he will be peaceful and living good. He would have a backup plan just in case things didn’t go as well. McCandless died as a happy peaceful man and loved his life. He was happy that he didn’t go to law school and be bored, he was happy that he went out and explore the beautiful nature.

  6. McCandless decision to leave his life to pursue a new one is not justifiable. McCandless choose to leave everything behind because his head was full of fantasies of how living in nature was going to be due to him reading the works of Tolstoy, Lodon, and Thoreau that he was unprepared to live in the wild because of these ideas which their works were fictional and for him to abandon everything was foolish.
McCandless was foolish because of these ideology of living in nature made him not prepared enough for the journey and consequences of nature that made him die a horrible death. His decision can be seen as a good way because he was able to pursue a new life, but it could have made him think and prepare more for it if he hadn't just left that quickly things could have turned out differently if he had prepared for it.
At the end it ended up a tragedy because of the way he died in the old school bus in Alaska and also why de died from starvation that indicates to us that he wasn't really well prepared for the journey of abandoning everything to live in nature. But it can also be seen as a triumph because he got to live out his dream of living a free life and seeing places where not many people get to see in person and the experience of it all that it can be seen as both trageic and a triumph.

Mccandless decided to vacate the life that was expected of him because he thought he could leave society behind and survive without the standard "values" of the typical person. He didn't want any expectations put on him and didn't want to live a day to day routine. His reasons do not seem justified and he seems like a whiny ungrateful kid sometimes. But as I read on and see different aspects of mccandless I reconsider my opinion of him and what kind of person he truly was. And also question his reasons for going into the wild unprepared.
Many would call mccandless a fool for leaving his more than comfortable life. For example when he didn't accept a new car from his father. But I respect that and think he had good reasons not to accept it. I believe he even validates his reason when he writes in his journal "I'm going to have to be real careful not to accept any gifts from them in the future because they will think they have bought my respect (mccandless 21) I also see him as courages and brave for actually going out into the wild and living his life the way he really wanted to. He craved adventure and new experiences, and although he had some hardships he definitely got what he was looking for.
Mccandless died very young and so I see it as a tragedy. But I believe he stuck with his values even to his death and that in it's self is a triumph. Although it is very likely he suffered and had a painful death due to starvation and other unknown factors, I also believe he had an honorable death. Overall I respect his decision to go into the wild.

  8. On April 1992, Christopher Johnson McCandless ventured into the woods of Alaska and was found dead just 4 months later. McCandless grew up in the suburbs of Washington D.C., he was an elite athlete and excelled in academics. He had a promising future as he had just graduated from Emory University with honors, so his decision to leave and completely change his lifestyle astonished the rest. The reasons for his abandonment were known as #1 to pursue a life of adventure not apathy/routine #2 to get away from his sleep walker, money-driven/materialistic parents.

Everyday is the same routine for everyone, alarm goes off get ready head to work or school, stay there for hours, go home rest and repeat the same the next day. McCandless realized this was not what he wanted his life to consist of. Growing up anywhere one sees how important materialistic things become, especially when one has plenty of money. McCandless grew tired of this lifestyle and being around those who felt that way, ultimately he saw his only way out was to venture into the woods. These reasons do in fact make plenty of sense, his reasons are justified but to a certain extent.

McCandless not once has came across as fool. A fool does not have this wishful thinking of his, a fool is one who does not attempt to make a change instead just complain. His decisions come across as a triumph, although he did die, he survived longer than most. Forget the fact that he survived for 4 months, he made a change in his life. He told himself that a routine lifestyle full of materialistic things was not what he wanted to live and made the change. To attempt to change something in your life is forever a triumph, as too many are afraid to do so.

  9. Mc Candless decision to vacate was really bad because he decided no to take anything with him and leave everything behind. He has believe that leaving everything behind would be the right thing to do and that he wont need anything to survive. My opinion on Mc Candless makes me think he is a stubborn person that doesn't listen to people on what they tell his but later on in the book he proofs people that he can do it with ut anything and that he can survive. Many people might think that he is a dumb person because in the book it says that he didn't want to accept anything from his parents like the car. He thinks that accepting something from them he feels responsible for it and feels like he has to pay them back even though he knows that what he has is good enough for him. With that he also thinks that with accepting gifts from him in the future that they have bought his respect. I think that he is a very brake guy because he went to the wild without anyone alone with anything and survived out their without anyone's help. I have looked up to him and got the respect for him because he did everything he said he would exactly do with out anyone. Its very sad how he has died in a very young age from starvation witch makes me think that he should of been prepared to take food with him and maybe if he has changed his decisions he would still be alive. At the end he thought that he would have experience everything he wanted to do and have a amazing journey he might of been right and has enjoyed it or not but people wouldn't know because he didn't say before he has died. And I respect him also because he went with his gut and did what he thought was right and his death was respectful and honorable.

  11. April 1992, Christopher Johnson McCandles ventured into the woods of Alaska and was dead a few months later. McCandles left his good life to become a better person and making himself responsible. Living under his parents roof for the rest of his life he was not going to go no where. Living under his parents roof was going to make him a lazy person. I believe it is good that he left his life into becoming a responsible the hard way. These decisions are justified do to fact that he left out into the wilderness.
The good side to this is that McCandle wants to be independent and make himself a better person. McCandle wanted to make his dreams come true to see how the journey will go. He did exactly what he had planned for but nobody will know what had happened due to the fact that he died. McCandle thought people wanted to buy his love and respect with pure gifts. He did not want to accept the car that his parents had bought him. People might of said he is a fool by leaving all the good stuff behind but is to make his future better to himself.

  12. Christopher McCandles made the choice to leave his old life behind and venture into the wilderness to have an odyssey. He felt that materials weren't important, because he was a naturalist.Chris was inspired by H.D.T, Tolstoy and London. London was his favorite. They were also naturalist. His choice to leave was justified, since he wasn't happy with the life he was living and going out to live his odyssey made him happy that's all that really matters.
Christopher wasn't prepared physically, but mentally he was. Also we have to remember that he wasn't about the materials, so going to the wilderness with a few supplies wasn't a concern for him. That may have been the reason why he die, but at least he lived a life with adventure and the way he wanted to lived not like the rest of society that follows routines.

In my opinion chris was triumph. He made his life what he wanted of his life. even though his ending was sad hes outcome was well. Now we know about who he is what he did.

  14. McCandless decides to leave his life behind and live off the land. He graduates with high grades from a university and ends up giving his law school fund money to charity. His parents offer to buy him a car and he declines saying if he had accepted he would be expected to respect his parents.

He wants to get rid of his things only keeping with him 10 pounds of rice, a 22 caliber rifle, a couple boxes of rifle rounds, a camera, and a book with a field guide on edible plants. He hitchhiked to the Stampede Trail in Alaska. His goal was to live off the land independently without reliance on anything or anyone.

I believe his decisions were very brave. Not many people would have lasted as long as he did or stayed out there at all. He was trying to be as independent as possible and I respect that about him. People tried to help him and he would deny them. He had a few side jobs but they never really worked out.

After about 100 days in the wild he ended up starving to death. I believe it was expected because he didn’t have anything and was living off the land. He had reasons that made sense to him and not to anyone else and I think thats all that really matters. He made a few people like him and a few people worry about him but in the end he still did what he intended to do.

  15. McCandless was a regular guy living as a upper middle class citizen who decided to leave his luxuries and life behind for a new one. His new life consisted of nothing but the natural necessities that he learned from role models; Jack London, Leo Tolstoy, and Henry David Thoreau. McCandless’s journey shows how one can be strong enough to live without the fake “necessities” of life. I believe McCandless has a justifiable cause for living the way he wants and getting his methods from very famous naturalist.

Although, McCandless did die out on his travels he did overcome moments in which people would consider an unavoidable aspect of life. Throughout these scenarios he took advantage of people he met along the way and lived off the little they gave to him which showed he used every little thing he could possibly get. I respect McCandless in the sense most of the people he met along with the rubber tramps said he was a good guy with good intentions for himself and everyone around him.

At the end, McCandless did end up in a tragedy but he lived out long enough that most people would call it a triumph. McCandless started of with just few objects which wouldn’t get him anywhere, when he met more and more friends he lived of off what they gave him including food. So i respect McCandless and believe his intentions were noble yet ending in a tragedy.

  17. McCandless started off a normal guy going to high school getting good grades, going to college as well, and he even had his parents behind him to guild him with support. He was an average guy in a middle class family, so he was no different than anyone else. Till one day he decides to leave everything behind to live out in the wild. For example he is leaving his family behind, the people that have his back since day one. He lets go a car that his parents buy him and goes on to say that if he accepts it then his parents are going to expect respect from him. The last main thing he lets go off is his schooling, he gives all of his law funds to charity.

McCandless's decision and reasons are justifiable because even though he is making his own decision in wanting to live the way he wants, he is still leaving behind a lot of major things. So yes his decision is justifiable in a sense that we respect his grown up decision and also don't really know why he let everything go so easily.

To call McCandless a fool because of what he wants to do is not accurate. McCandless is just wanting to live the way he wants, the way Jack London, Leo Tolstoy, and Henry David Thoreau influenced him. He is a grown man making his own decisions and pretty much chasing his dream, so you can't get mad or call anyone a fool if you know that what they want to do comes from their heart.

The overall make of this is there is no real answer to if this was a tragedy or a triumph because there are so many things caught between that there is no unanimous pick to whether it be a tragedy or a triumph. The reason it could be a tragedy is because how would you feel knowing that most of the people that heard about this think you are stupid, then let alone the way he had to live and starve, so pretty this can be a tragedy because he went from something to nothing, also leading to his death. Even though most people pick McCandless's decision to be a tragedy there is still the moral part of this that we have to take in that makes this a triumph because all over today we are told don't let anyone tell you what to do or chase your dreams and for all I know McCandless did exactly that. So all in all I was stuck in the middle because even though I would have stayed and live my life the way it was I still respect McCandless's decision and going with his pride.

  18. McCandless was a fool making an unusual decision to vacate the life that was expected of him, but also for him not being prepared enough in what was needed of him to survive in the wilderness. First off, he had it all at the beginning with a few problems in the side. Which was not that serious of a problem other than being helped by his parents and his friends. So to sum it up all together, McCandless's life before he went to the North. Was like a cage that was holding him back with all the human intimacy, of friendship, and all the emotional baggage that comes with it.
However, McCandless ends up dying in the wilderness that he wanted to be in. Being alone and secluded from all those around him in his own peaceful way of living. What his downfall was that he didn't take enough resources when he needed them the most and also didn't ask for help since it did not go with the way he was trying to live.
Nevertheless, I think McCandless was a fool for what he did because he had it all, it seemed he could't deal with it. So he ignored the responsibilities and bonds of intimacy by going into the wilderness, where he only had himself to account to. In allowing to forget about the responsibilities one has in any close relationships, he ignores the harm done to those who love him when he risks his safety and his life.

Many people argue McCandless was insane to leave what he knows to be unprepared in the wild. Others say he was brave to follow his values.Did McCandless a brave or foolish man?
The life that was expected for him was a ‘ideal’ life set by his parents. McCandless wanted for his-self though the journey of going ‘into the wild’ for many the life Chris McCandless had was perfect his parents bought him a new car which he didn’t take thinking that was a way of respect , hard working is a big value for McCandless “i’ve told them a million times that i have the best car in the world.... and to think i’d actually accept a new car from them” (McCandless21)
McCandless reasons to leave his family are justified though the decisions of his heroes Henry David Thoreau , Jack London , Tolstoy.
Chris McCandless death was in a four month period of finding himself i see his death as a triumph of standing for values and respect. Chris was very smart he understood his decisions had a purpose for each of them. Although he passed i believe he was brave and strong minded throughout his journey into the wild.

  20. Chris McCandless, a young man who decided to take on a journey into the wilderness with very few survival materials believed many of the philosophies his "hero's" believed and lived with to some extent. The young man took on the adventure and the harshness of nature by choice. The decisions McCandless made during his time he was in the wild were: getting away from society, living off the land, getting away from a controlling government, as well as changing his name and where he was truly from.
McCandless was a brave young man for the risky choices he made. McCandless did not only experience the difficulties and struggles of living in the wilderness and relying on the land or even a helpful hand but he lived his life with his own personal choices. McCandless lived by his own rules and his own philosophies day by day, he lived and believed by many of the things his hero's, Henry David Thoreau, Jack London and Leo Tolstoy believed in. McCandless lived by many of the things Thoreau believed in, in the need to work and provide for one individually; however, McCandless also believed in London's philosophy of the need for the materials of a government but believed that one could hear nature's call. McCandless had more of a personal connection in which they both believed everyone should be equal among society, no government defines you, and no paper by the government has a true meaning.
I personally view McCandless's wild adventure as a triumph. McCandless did not only live up to his own expectations but he also did something many people are afraid of, he lived his life to his full potential. For instance, in the letter McCandless had written to Ron, he states that one must have new adventures and experiences behind one's self. He also mentions that one is not to make excuses, that one must just do it. One must live life and that once they begin to live their life, they will be very glad they did. It is understood why people believe McCandless was a fool for following his desire to live in the wilderness, to explore the beauties of nature and the world. McCandless knew the risk of leaving his life with his family, he understood the possibility of not making it back home, but he understood the true meaning of his life. McCandless's life goal was to be happy in whatever he decided to do and that is exactly what he did. He gathered the necessary things and was determined to get to Alaska, he was determined to live his life with new adventures and experiences and accomplish what most people are afraid of, living.

  21. The main reason why McCandless makes an unusual decision to leave his old life behind is because he sensed like he had to discover the human he really was, that's what everybody assumes when they first read the novel “Into The Wild”, However we can't really justify the main reasons why he truly heads off into the wilderness and decides to start a new life. We all view things and ideas with different perspectives, we can't really determined what Mccandless had in mind, This novel was written in Krakauer's point of view so it makes it difficult for us to believe whether McCandless was just merely a lost and troubled young man, who just all of a sudden abandoned comfortable upper- middle-class existence and his family for remote wilderness, or on the contrary can we just really assume he was actually suffering from mental illnesses. The fact that some people have chosen to make McCandless a mythic folk hero is a curious side product of that. I personally think that McCanless was just running away , he just felt dishonored by his father when he found out about the other marriage that he had. To start off, he felt alone and disappointed. He wanted to isolate himself from all wrongs. McCandless was a dreamer "The heaviest item in Mccandless's half-full backpack was his library... titles by Thoreau and Tolstoy and Gogol..." (page 162). John Krakauer, Inspirational authors that motivated McCandles to go off into the Wild, McCandless just when he reached his goal, he was running out of supplies in order to survive , in a way the way his death was caused was a tragedy, but yet again it makes him triumph for the sacrifices he took to make his dreams come true.

  22. In the book Into The Wild McCandless makes an unusual decision to leave his old life behind to start a new fresh life out in the wilderness. McCandless decides to leave all that he had because he got tired of getting things from his parents like money and a new car. McCandless’ parents also wanted to pay for his tuition for college to become a lawyer. McCandless wanted to live care free and with little to no personal possessions like his car and all the money that he had. ha wanted nothing to do with the world. “He changed his name, gave the entire balance of twenty-four-thousand dollar savings account to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash he had in his wallet.” (Krakauer,1).

McCandless’ decision was justifiable because he was just trying to find his purpose in life, therefore i think McCandless wasn’t a fool for what he did which was leaving his family and all his possessions behind. I see the outcome as both a tragedy and a triumph. It’s a tragedy because McCandless died out in the Alaskan wilderness but it is also a triumph because McCandless set his mind on going out to the wilderness to try to live with only a few tools, books, his journals to record his experiences and his knowledge, he has accomplished his journey through the wilderness on his own. He was very intelligent and understood the whole time what he was doing. He was a brave strong-willed man and didn’t care what other thought of him and his actions.

  23. Chris McCandless was a young well educated man that had his whole life ahead, yet he decided to leaving everything behind for an adventure in the wild. He chose to go into the wild because he believe that life had more to offer than money, education, love and technology. He also didn't like obeying the law or anyone .He want to go seek and see more of life than he had already. The most influential people in his life and for making this decision were; Jack, HDT and Tolstoy because Chris believed in the same things they did which was that civilization was not that necessary to live life. His reasons are justifiable because it was what he wanted to do and no one had the right to tell him not to do it because it was also what he believed in and no one can change his mind.

McCandless was not a fool for making such a bold decision because it was something he want to do, it was his desire and everyone has the right to achieve their desires no matter how unusual they maybe or does it make a person a fool for achieving their desires? And everyone has the right to do and live their life however they want, of course as long its not breaking the law I believe people have the right. All McCandless did was achieve his desire.

I see the outcome as both tragedy and triumph. Tradgey because in McCandless last moments he didn't have anyone with him and his family lost a unique love one. A triumph because McCandless accomplish something he wanted to do knowing what the risks were yet he didn't back out. He also did something different that most people wouldn't do because they're scared. Chris never let anyone or anything change his mind.

  24. McCandless makes an unusual decision to vacate the life that is expected of him. He was a very gifted athlete and a scholar; he who showed deep enthusiasm and strict moral compass. He made his parents think that he was going to attend law school, but instead after graduating with honors he gave all his savings to charity. The decision that McCandless made was justifiable, the decision he made was the right choice since he was tired of hearing people's judgement. He did not want to leave; he wanted to do what the people he admired did.
His decision to leave his life behind allowed him to live a life of freedom. Since McCandless became aware of how useless human bonds are held him behind from being free, like having connection with family and friends is all unnecessary to McCandless. It was a triumph because he wanted to travel to have an adventure and not listen to anyone and make his own rules. I dont believe that he was a fool because he actually did what he always wanted to do and died happily.
If I were the be in his position I would do the same because I want my own freedom but not got too extreme like he did. I like the way he thinks and how he admires people like i do, and that I also look up to.

  25. McCandless wanted to be an individual. He believed that life had more to offer than just material things. He believed that there was more to life than being controlled by the law. he wanted to make his own rules and be free to do what he wanted.
I feel that his decision was the right choice he made for himself because he wanted life to be an open door for him and in the wild he can be open and free to be his own boss he made the rules. In the decision he made he was not a fool because he did it for him it was what he wanted sometimes in life not many people can say they lived there life how they wanted to.
I see the outcome as both a tragedy and a triumph. I see it as a triumph because he wanted to do it, it was the way he wanted to live the rest of his life like an open adventure into the wilderness even though it was by himself. I also see it as a tragedy because he left his family, friends, and the real world to eventually know that he was going to die alone.

McCandless love with the wild based off of his literary heroes experiences with then wild and government. Although each of them realized to an extent their beliefs are fiction and can’t be done up until his death where he comes to realizations he needed help and felt he wasn’t happy because he needed someone to share his experiences to finally reach happiness.
Chris McCandless feeling with the government throughout his journey was that the government needs to mind their own business but, changes due to the fact everyone needs a little bit of help. McCandless had a job at McDonalds and the store policy was he must wear socks .“ The first thing he’d do is peel those socks off . I mean the very first thing kind of like a statement , to let us know we didn’t own him, I guess”. Which relates to David Thoreou dislike with the government because he had a big respect for nature and simple living. Therefore McCandless taking off his socks after work was a way of giving the government the middle finger.
Ultimate freedom the idea of the relationship between the government and individual freedoms. McCandless burns the money to show the government had no power over him. Which is a reason Chris leaves home because, he felt his family was corrupted the money the government gives them. McCandless journey into the wild was a way for him to be free from the government he hunted and lived off of the land which was his way of simple living,

  27. McCandless makes an unusual decision to leave the social life to go out to the wild and live a ultimate freedom because his hero's did the same thing. He wants to away from society, live by his own rules instead of the governments "life style". When McCandless leaves he changes his name, burns all of his money and ditches the car his parents gave him. He just leaves with few survival things.
I believe McCandless is brave for choosing to go into the wild because the wild is a risky place to be in. McCandless is not a fool he's an amazing person for going out there and challenging himself something i know i wouldn't do half the things he did. McCandless had three hero's Henry Thoreau, Leo Tolstoy, and Jack London these men all go out and try to live off the land and that inspired Chris to live that life. They are the men that chris lives his life. I feel like the outcome was a triumph because like i said i wouldn't do that and theirs not a lot of people who will never do that because their afraid. Also, it was an triumph because Chris did what he loved he lived his life to his expectation and no one else.

  28. McCandles makes an unusual decision to leave his easy life behind,i say easy because his parents gave him what he wanted, which he didn't ask for much.He graduated college with great grades, his parents wanting him to be a lawyer but all he wanted to do after college was move out and travel to Alaska to live out in the wild.McCandless would say that his parents were hypocrites and he couldn't stand them. Mcandles was a brave young man deciding to leave without letting anyone know and get away from a life he wasn't enjoying. He changed his name to Alex, abandon his car burning his money and continue his adventures with out regrets. He had all right to do what made him happy ,although he went into the wild not as prepared. He knew what he was getting himself to when he decided to go into the wild. In my opinion i think it was a triumph because he reached his goal and many humans wouldn't take as much rick he did.
